Auromat is a
non woven fabric designed with a micro-cellular structure, that provides
volume with very low weight, and voids that allow easy incorporation of
resin. This makes it ideal for using as a core material in Fiber
Reinforced Plastic (FRP) sándwich composites resulting in strong, stiff
and light laminates. .
A conventional FRP laminate is built-up by external layers (skins) and a
core. The skins are typically made of fiberglass mats, woven roving,
resin and gelcoat. The flexural strength of the final laminate depends
greatly on total thickness The main purpose of a core is to provide
flexural strength through a thicker laminate but with a very low weight.
Nowadays, some FRP industries still use fiberglass and resin to build-up
the core which results in a heavy structure. However, using AUROMAT as a
core material will result in extremely light and strong structures.
This, in turn, results in lower production costs for the Fiber
Reinforced Plastic Industry.
The micro spheres
incorporated in AUROMAT are resistant to high temperatures (>170°C)
and high pressure. When those micro spheres are saturated with resin,
and molded as desired, they gain stiffness. When other materials like
cardboard, balsa or polyurethane are used as a core, poor adhesion
between the web and resin is likely to occur, resulting in poor
maleability. These problems are overcome with AUROMAT.
Laminates made with
AUROMAT are STIFFER, LIGHTER and EASIER to manufacture.
AUROMAT is delivered in rolls with a 1 meter width (3.28 ft) and 2mm to
5mm thicknesses (see Technical Sheet). On special orders we supply 1.27
mt. (4.17ft) width.
