REFURBISHING
DULL GEL-KOTE TO ORIGINAL HI-GLOSS FACTORY FINISH
NOTE: These procedures shall begin only after the Gel-Kote has completely cured. STEP
1: Wet
Sanding: The
sandpaper shall be completely saturated with water during this process. Attach the sandpaper to the sanding block (RJL100410 or
RJL100501). The plastic pail (RJL100431) shall be close by filled with
water for convenience. Starting
with 220A-grit sandpaper slowly graduating to 320A-grit, then 400A-grit
sandpaper finishing the process with 600a-grit sandpaper. Long strokes back and forth are recommended for best results. After
completing the sanding process thoroughly rinse the area with fresh
water. Completely dry area
before proceeding. STEP
2: Compounding: The fine scratches left from the wet sanding process shall
now be removed using a machine buffer (2800 R.P.M. maximum), the heavy
duty compound (RJL100432) and a 1” pile buff pad (RJL100098). It is important to buff the entire area, bringing this area
to a reflective sheen. As
the buff pads loads with compound and becomes less responsive, the buff
pad cleaning spur (RJL100097) will remove the old compound to reveal a
clean pad. STEP
3: Sealing: Using a machine buffer (2800 R.P.M. maximum), the sealer
glaze (RJL100277) and a 1 ½ inch pile buff pad, buff the compounded
area to a hi-gloss,
reflective finish. Each
application of new sealer glaze shall be buffed in opposite directions
occasionally cleaning buff pad with spur tool (RJL100097). STEP
4: Waxing: Apply paste wax using a circular, overlapping motion.
The area being waxed should appear to be moist or wet to assure
good coverage. Remove wax
by hand with a clean dry cloth or towel (RJL100014).
Wax should dry thoroughly before removal.
